Often referred to as the most picturesque pub on the waterfront, Federal Jack’s Restaurant and Brew Pub is well-known for its spectacular views, creative pub fare, and award-winning hand-crafted ales.
Jack’s, as it’s known by the locals, offers a brew with a view overlooking the Kennebunk River. This award-winning restaurant and brewery was built on the site where, in their heyday, Kennebunk’s historic 19th century shipyards built schooners known throughout the world for their grace and speed. Federal Jack’s was named for one of the most famous ships built on this site in 1908 – the Federal Jack.
One of Maine’s first brew pubs, this popular restaurant is the birthplace of Shipyard Brewing Company’s award winning-line of handcrafted ales. In y 1992, entrepreneur Fred Forsley and master brewer Alan Pugsley established the Kennebunkport Brewing Company (KBC) and Federal Jack’s. Word of our fine ales spread quickly throughout Maine. Demand quickly outpaced our size, and, in 1994, Shipyard Brewing CompanyShipyard Brewing Company was built Portland, Maine.

The Perfect Pour
All the beers available at Federal Jack’s are handcrafted at KBC, our seven-barrel brewery located right downstairs. Federal Jack’s draft beer system uses all the latest technology. The system gives head brewer, Mike Haley, as much control over the way the beer is poured in the pub as he has over the selection of the ingredients that go into making the beer downstairs at KBC.
The system uses glycol-cooled draft lines to maintain a constant temperature so all the beers served at Federal Jack’s are the same exact temperature at which they are stored. Having a consistent temperature from the holding tanks downstairs to the steel draft towers up in the restaurant results in consistent carbonation and provides an excellent draft product with the very best flavor possible.
The KBC brewers are also constantly tapping firkins – kept in the chill room – and hand-pumped by the bartenders. These Cask-Conditioned beers are non-filtered and naturally carbonated. British beer-drinkers refer to them as Real Ales. We hope you enjoy these special brews – Cheers!
